Artist Conception of Sgr A Black Hole
and Expanding “Plasma Blob”
The picture on the left is a model, or an artist’s conception, of what Sagittarius A might look like at high resolution.  At the center is a black hole with it s disk and outer spiral arm pattern.  The white outline depicts an exploding plasma blob over time. (Technical term “Plasma Blob” = ionized gas)
The plot on the right shows the flare detected in X-ray by the Chandra Space Telescope.  The plot also shows the exploding plasma blob’s expansion in the submillimeter, as seen by SHARC2.
This short-term variability was done in conjunction with the long-term variability study of the previous slide.
